Well, the ad said they were running a special and your trade in would get NADA retail value. After the deal closed I feel my trade in could could have gotten NADA average retail which was $15,025. It was a very clean very low mileage bike. Low Retail is 11,420. They gave me $12,879. Bad on me for not doing my homework prior to walking on their property.
Also, I went in with bad info in my head that the bike I wanted base price MSRP was $28,200. It was actually $26,000. Long story short, after extensive (Wore you out) negotiations, They finally sold the bike to me for $28,177 ($23 below MSRP). Neither the initial salesperson or the middle man (Team leader) who went between me and the big guy manager sitting perched up high, corrected me on my mis-interpretation of the true MSRP. They just went with it. Again, bad on me for not writing down my research and relying on my not so good memory.
In summary, it's all on me for doing a pure impulse buy. I learned, the sales team is NOT on your side. They are there strictly to maximize company profits.
The delivery was hodgepodge at best. My original salesman and others there had NO clue how the new Street Glide Infotainment system works. Not a clue! Training of salesforce there is obviously lacking. I really felt that once they got my money I was a quick afterthought to them.Harley provides no separate manual on the Infotainment system that they used to.(On previous bike called Boom Box manual). That and finding out Harley charges another $349 for Navigation on the bike along with only supplying 1 key FOB tells me Harley is getting cheap and nickel and dimming us. Too bad, I have always held Harley Davidson in the highest esteem prior to this.
On the positive side: The sales team were very friendly and answered most of the questions I had on the bike. My orientation to Avalanche Harley (the grand tour they give you after purchase) was highlighted by a very helpful maintenance person named Jensen. Also, Wayne a master Harley Tech, made an effort to come out of the back and try to help me with Nav and Infotainment system. Didn't get it working but I have to give both Wayne and Jensen an A+ for effort on trying to help me and feeling like a valuable customer . Kudos to you both!
Would I buy another bike from this place. Yes. BUT, I would go in with a firm price written down and walk out if they could not give it to me. This dealership charges $1297 dealer prep fee which not all Harley dealers charge. So, do your homework! Go in informed. Make your offer and if they don't say yes, immediately walk out the door and look elsewhere. Do not let them wear you down. Be firm in your resolve! Learn from my mistakes!
Bottom line though, I ended up with a bike I love. Paying more than I should have. Give the dealership a win on this one. I hope the service from Avalanche is good in the future. If Jensen and Wayne are indications of their service department I think I will be in good hands.
